Blue Star MOthers of America, INc.
Originally formed in Flint, Michigan in 1942, and chartered by congress in June of 1960, the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. consists of mothers of servicemen and women in the military, guard or reserves.
The organization not only provides support for active duty service personnel, but it promotes patriotism, assists Veterans organizations, and are available to assist in homeland volunteer efforts to help our country remain strong.

Chapter Leadership
Chapter President - Barbara SalkowBarbara Salkow is a founding member of the Gulf Coast FL-12 Blue Star Mothers Chapter. Barbara is a Collier County Public Schools Guest Teacher and proud mother of an active-duty Airman stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. As Chapter President, she looks forward to collaborating with other charitable organizations to expand our outreach and increase our ability to support active-duty military, veterans, and military families.
Chapter Vice President - Kim HatchelKim Hatchel is the proud mom of an active-duty Soldier. Her son has been serving in South Korea since 2019. Kim has worked in the mortgage management industry for nearly 25 years and has actively been involved with Gulf Coast Florida Blue Stars Mom #12 since 2019. She looks forward to her continued service to Blue Star Mother’s group and our Active/Veteran Military.
Chapter Vice President - Kimberley BurnsKimberley Burns is the proud mom to a Sailor since early 2015. He has been stationed in Yokosuka, Japan since early 2016. She works at a major Investment Adviser. Kim continues to work with a local high school JROTC. As Chapter 2nd Vice President, she looks forward to serving this chapter not only assisting the military (active and veterans) but its members. Only other military Moms understand what a Mom goes through when they have a child in the military. We are here to help!
Chapter Financial Secretary - Irene GiordanoIrene is a proud mom of two boys who both serve in the military--a Sailor at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA and a Soldier stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC. Irene relocated to Cape Coral in 2019 after living in northern VA all her life. The timing was perfect because she met the Blue Star Moms at a craft fair soon after her Navy son graduated basic. The love, support, and kindness the moms give is amazing and extremely appreciated!
Chapter Treasurer - Andrea GoodwinAndrea is married to her husband Phil, a Vietnam Veteran who served as a pilot with the US Air Force. She and her husband are retired FBI Agents and the proud parents of Franklin, a US Army officer presently stationed at Camp Humphreys, South Korea. As Treasurer, Andrea looks forward to serving as well, through the Gulf Coast Florida Blue Star Mothers of America Chapter 12, assisting our military families, their active duty soldiers and our veterans.
Chapter REcording Secretary - Jan NordquistJanice (Jan) Nordquist, originally from Ohio, was a teacher for 35 years. Jan joined GCFBSM in 2020 and feels so blessed by the fellowship, volunteerism, and support of group members.
Jan and her husband Tom (Navy Reserve Retiree) became FL homeowners in 2016. Her two children live in Ohio and her son, Zach, is Marine veteran. Jan proudly has one grandson and 2 grand daughters, grand dog and grand cat. Jan has been a Sweet Adeline for 32 years and sings with Spirit of the Gulf Chorus. Besides GCFBSM Jan is active in American Legion Auxiliary, Cape Coral Social club, Pelican Briefs, Delta Gamma Sorority Alumni. |
